10-Best-Detox-Smoothies-To-Naturally-Cleanse-Your-Body

One of the latest and wildly popular health trends is detox smoothies. The word ‘detox’ is short for detoxification, which means to remove toxins from the body, or to cleanse the chemicals and pollutants from the body. Detoxing also has the added benefit of helping with weight loss.

Our bodies are exposed to hundreds of toxins and chemicals every day from the air we breathe in that also touches our hair and skin to the foods we eat, and even the hygiene and beauty products we use. Detoxification is the best means of ridding our bodies of these poisons and detox smoothies are an effective, nutritious, and delicious way to do it. Detox smoothies are made using some of the healthiest and most nutrient-dense foods.

Detox diets are also becoming increasingly popular. These diets are designed to restrict caloric intake while ingesting only foods and drinks which work to detoxify the body. A typical detox diet lasts anywhere from a few days to a week. While these types of diets are growing in popularity, many experts are warning that scientific evidence to prove their actual effectiveness is sorely lacking. In fact, numerous studies have proven that extreme limitation of calories such as many of these types of diets involve, can be very harmful. Such severe limitations can lead to vitamin and mineral deficiencies, a weakened immune system, fatigue, sleeplessness, dehydration, and other serious problems.

A more beneficial approach to detoxing the body is to use healthy and safe methods such as eating an organic diet, drinking plenty of water, enjoying a sauna, and of course making and enjoying your own tasty and healthy smoothies using your favorite fruits and veggies. There are also a number of ingredients you can add to your smoothie to increase its detoxification effectiveness and to amp up its health benefits.

Good Ingredient To Add To Your Detox Smoothies

• FENNEL– Fennel is a root vegetable. It’s flavor has been compared to licorice. It has anti-inflammatory properties, always beneficial tot he body, and it is a diuretic, which means it works to flush excess fluids from the body. Fennel activates glutathione, an antioxidant found in the liver. Glutathione attaches to and removes harmful free radicals from the body, making it easier for the body’s natural processes to flush out toxins.

• WATERCRESS- Watercress will not alter the flavor of your smoothie, but it will add some pretty spectacular benefits to it. Watercress helps to improve circulation as well as oxygenating body tissue. increased circulation aids the body’s natural processes of eliminating toxins.

• YOGURT- Yogurt not only gives smoothies their creamy texture, it is rich in probiotics, a “good” bacteria which the body needs in order to function properly. Probiotics help with digestion and boost the immune system. Remember to use plain yogurt in order to avoid any added sugars. Greek yogurt is a great choice as it also gives your smoothie an added jolt of protein.

• BEETS- Before you revert back to your childhood and turn your nose up, give this vegetable a chance. Beets are actually sweet in flavor and they contain a wonderful compound called Betalains. Betalains have powerful anti-inflammatory properties and they help to repair damaged cells, particularly in the liver. This is especially beneficial since most detoxification occurs in the liver. Beets also help to flush out the lymph nodes.

• SPIRULINA and CHLORELLA- Both of these “superfoods” are very popular as they are extremely effective at detoxing heavy, damaging metals from the human body. Through a process known as cheluation, spirulina and chlorella bind to heavy metals and remove them from the body. They are also two of the most nutrient-dense foods known.

• CRANBERRIES– Cranberries work to cleanse the organs involved in the body’s waste elimination processes as well as clearing away toxins and plaque from the lymphatic system.

Another alternative is organifi, which has most of these ingredients in it!

Smoothies can be found on the menu at nearly every restaurant as well as in grocery stores, but most of those are processed and have many unhealthy additives. It is best to make your very own fresh smoothies at home with ingredients you yourself have chosen. For those among us who want the extremely healthy benefits smoothies offer but who are not especially fond of some of the most healthy ingredients, such as kale, arugula, and other greens and veggies, there is a fantastic little trick: adding just a handful of a sweet fruit such as pineapple or watermelon to a smoothie “disguises” the flavor of the vegetables completely! Sound too good to be true? Well, try it for yourself and you will be very pleasantly surprised! (This is especially helpful in getting your kids to drink them. They think they are just getting a tasty treat; you know they’re getting a ton of great vitamins and minerals).

The liver cleanse diet is another type of detox diet that is being touted as a “miracle worker” for the liver. Is there any truth to these claims?
The liver is an amazing organ. It performs over 400 functions within the human body. Therefore, it stands to reason that from time to time the liver could use a little “tune up”.

When the liver isn’t quite up to par, your body will send you signals such as:

  • Headaches
  • Digestion problems
  • Sluggishness
  • Weight gain
  • Pain in the right side

When these symptoms appear, it may be time to give the liver a little detox.

Switch your diet to mostly fresh, plant-based foods, decrease or eliminate alcohol intake, drink plenty of water with lemon, and increase your consumption of “healthy” fats such as those found in:

  • Almonds
  • Walnut
  • Pumpkin
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Avocado
  • Olives

Consider taking a multi vitamin supplement, or add things like vitamin B and selenium. All of these steps, along with some fresh air and a bit of exercise, will have you feeling great in no time flat, and will have your liver performing at it’s very best!

The colon cleanse diet is another type of detox diet we are hearing more and more about lately. The importance of the colon and it’s functions within the body has been known for centuries. The ancient Greeks actually took part in ritualistic-type colon cleanses on a regular basis. While such ceremonious practices are not necessary today, it is a good idea to pay a bit of extra attention to this important little organ and make sure it stays happy and healthy.

When it comes to detoxing the colon, the list of foods NOT to eat is probably more important than those that are recommended for consumption.

foods-to-avoid-featured1

These Foods include:

  • All processed flours and sugars (white)
  • Alcohol
  • Dairy products Coffee

Healthy, natural, fiber-rich foods are recommended in order to keep the colon naturally cleansed and working properly. These types of foods actually “scrub” the walls and lining of the colon as they are digested, clearing away harmful debris left behind by other foods. Vegetables and foods such as broccoli, celery, apples, brown rice, and cauliflower are some of the most highly effective foods for colon health. Drinking plenty of water is also important in order to help keep the colon flushed out and free from food particles that can clog and interfere with the colon’s performance.

As with nearly everything in this day and age, there are numerous pills on the market which claim to deliver all the benefits “and more” of the fresh, healthy ingredients included in detox smoothies and eaten in detox cleans diets. However, there is no “miracle drug” that can come close to doing for the body what a healthy diet full of fresh, vitamin and nutrient-rich, enjoyable foods can do. Don’t miss out on all the delicious benefits that come with a lifestyle of fresh eating! Nothing will do your body more good!
