Salt Water Flush – Cleansing and Detoxing With Salt Water?

Salt water flush, what in the world is that? The salt water flush is  a fairly new method to supposedly detox your body, but is it useful or a bunch of crap?

The idea first came about while the healthy, lemon detox "master cleanse" came about. It is believed that because of the laxative effect of warm salt water, your body will flush out toxins and help kill of parasites. Having heard all my life that salt water is bad for you, this peaked my interest.

Before even attempting a salt water flush, you need to make sure you don't have any medical issues, so speak to a medical professional before you begin, I'm NOT a doctor. This is for educational and entertainment only.

Before you begin you should have a sense of the dangers of doing a salt water flush:

The Dangers of Salt Water detoxing

Despite what you may have heard, salt water detoxification is not just fun and games. There are some real dangers to this form of detox, so you need to be aware of them, before doing it.

These dangers only happen for some indivuduals, not all of us. Prior to doing a salt water cleanse you do not know if you are part of the group of people who will experience these problems, so be careful.

The reason they happen is usually because your body doesn't get rid of the salt properly. Remember, the idea is to excrete the salt water in less than 30 minutes, YOUR body does not want it there in the first place. It's highly laxative.

We don't drink water from the ocean for a reason. It's not healthy, it can actually dehydrate you more than help you.

  • Alters your pH balance in the colon and body
  • Can harm your "good bacteria" in the colon
  • Can overload your kidneys, because of the high sodium content
  • Higher blood pressure
  • Electrolyte imblanaces
  • Vomiting (It's not easy to keep salt water down)

I want to do a salt detox anyway: How do I do it?

First you need to know it is a "set-up" detox before your other detox, be it a green detox, lemon detox or juice fast. You may want to start a colon cleanse or similar, this is used to clean the slate of your intestines if you will.

THe Recipe

  • 32 oz water
  • 2 tablespoons (tbsp) non-iodine salt
  • Water bottle

All you need for this is 32 oz of water, and 2 tbsp of non-iodine salt. It is important that the salt doesn't contain iodine or the method supposedly doesn't work.

Mix the salt into a bottle or glass, but the easiest is to dissolve it into a bottle. The water should be "warm, but not hot" while dissolving the salt into the water.

Once you've let the water cool down to a reasonable drinking temperature for you, do your best to swallow it. It's not easy, nor fun.

What happens in my body? Doesn't it taste bad...

You are absolutely correct. The salt water mixture tasted horrific. So, once you have managed to swallowing the disgusting liquid... you wait... for about 1 hour. If things are "moving around in your belly" within this time, start looking for a place to do the famous #2. There will be things happening soon. The feeling is your intestines flushing out the toxins and crap.

There will be multiple eliminations from now on. It may be faster or shorter depending on your body. You may feel some pressure in your b....t. You will know when it's working. Your body will know you are done, and your system is clean. Although I have to warn you, be close to home when you do this, because many reports have come in from people who thought they were done, but "weren't" so to speak. You don't want to be out and about for round 2.

Odds are some horrible looking, gooey things will make their way out of your body. After a few days on the salt flush detox (you don't need much more), you'll have a cleaned digestive tract. Now you can follow another colon cleanse and start eating healthy, to start absorbing nutrient efficiently again.

Why would I need to do a salt water flush?

In all honesty, you do not need it at all. In my opinion it is not the optimum way to help your body. In order to help your body the most, you should focus on eating lots of healthy fruits, greens, vegetables, beans, lentils, nuts and seeds. These foods contain fiber, which promote a healthy gut.

They also contain lots of phytonutrients which help aid in a good immune system. Your colon does need the so called "good bacteria", and those can be fed with prebiotics, fibers and sugars that they love. So I'd spend my money or efforts on improving my diet and eating more fruits and veggies, instead of forcing salt water down my intestines.

If you ever do this salt water flush, start eating well after, or it will be for nothing.

Good luck! Try the lemonade detox instead, it makes a lot more sense to me! Please leave a comment if you are of a different opinion, thanks! Help spread and share the article, as usual.
